The Boys & Girls Clubs of Washington County spent a cold night as they raised money and awareness of the plight of the homeless
The members of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Washington County – Jackson Unit helped to raise money and awareness of the plight of the homeless in Washington County. Every year, members spend a night in a cardboard box. Not only is it a rewarding, eye-opening experience for the members, but they also get pledges and raise funds for Family Promise, a nonprofit organization that works with the homeless. As part of the event, they are divided into imaginary family units and are given a challenge similar to those facing the homeless. After a meal at a soup kitchen, it’s off to sleep in their box. This event is the kick-off for our holiday clothing drive for Bob’s Under the Bridge, another group that helps the homeless. The chance to help and the knowledge gained by the members is a way to give back to our community.
